  1. One doesn't need magnetized pans, one needs pans that are ferrous, that is affected by magnetic fields. Most non-metals are not and only some metals are. Aluminum is not, for example, and aluminum pans would not work on induction. Most pans have layers of different metals, one of which will likely be ferrous. If the pans are old and lost the information on them, one should test them on an induction surface. The magnet test can do, but one really wants to see the affect on the bottom of the pan, not the sides. The real test is to check the pan in use.
