I have found Oral History to routinely be far more consistent and accurate than most Written History, (except that hidden and discovered thousands of years later or that set in Stone or Heated Clay Tablets).
Applying the "Standards of Science and Research" rather than an Academic affiliation is the route for greater fact findings. (Unless there's a threat to ones reoutation and livlihood), and that's the Researcher's choice, painful choice.
Many Oral Histories do include dates, but ine must go to the source, the "History Keepers" related to the relative subjects.
Oral History is routinely managed through a protocol "History Keepers" follow.
The early refusal ti accept natuve peoples as equal, intelligent, and trustworthy, aka prejudice began the habit of Archaeologists ignoring the very people they were studying through digs.
"They wrote the early history documents/stories in countkess People", without asking many or any for their information .
This has caused a flaw in the modern records of History.
This could easily be a soapbox for me. At minimum, History requires an Audit.
Mainstream continues to practice same habits and teach the flawed info. Frustrating
