@RainJackson79 we moved to Portugal and also spend time in Malaysia.

@Blessingsuponyou Plenty of countries around the world where there's high quality health services, transport systems work, the roads are not strewn with potholes, the cities are safe to walk at night - we escaped the UK in 2022 - we are never going back.
10
@basicfilmblog why would you think that? Very odd. We live very happily in Portugal away from all the UK nonsense !!

How easy is it to get a GPs appointment? I can see a doctor, same day - where I live. We left in 2022 - never going back.
3
@HDY0903 Trains run on time? Roads looking good? Free university education?
3
Either way, they are leaving.
3
Stay and enjoy! We departed in 2022, we've been very happy. Not going back - no need, we enjoy better healthcare, safer cities, and great transport infrastructure. Friendly locals too.
3
I'm not going back.

@Bluelu69 What is fair?
2
@Bluelu69 at £50 million tax - I'm not surprised they'll leaving.
2
We did in 2022.

Malaysia has some of the best healthcare in the world, some states are looking to offer free tertiary education to citizens. Roads are excellent, many cities are modern and all are safe. Industrial sectors - semi-conductors, hydro power (and other green energy), tourism, IT, health tourism, electric battery components, high value manufacturing.

Work online - move abroad.
2
Productivity? Debt levels? Balance of payments? £ vs. $ or €? Levels of foreign investment?
2
Work online

@basicfilmblog why not make a law where if people want to pay tax they can - others don’t have to?
2
@basicfilmblog What are you talking about? - we both voted to stay within the EU due to freedom of movement, as our plans to move to Portugal. Took advantage of tax laws of course, being tax residents in Portugal we are in their tax system and not subject to HMRC - that is the way tax laws work.
2
@Bluelu69 So, someone with £10 million a year income - should pay 50% tax, like middle income? Or are you saying they should pay £25k a year - like a middle income tax payer?
1
@Bluelu69 A lot of countries have 10% tax - Dubai now 9%. I guess the UK has a lot of debt, a costly military, corruption, HS2, the list goes on. I'm happier outside the UK. We left in 2022 - just couldn't take the day to day nonsense. Not going back. Stuff just works here.

@SmallManBigWorldGlobal We use both systems.
1
@SmallManBigWorldGlobal Portugal, we queue up at the local Saude in the morning and are seen that day.
1
It does feel like that!
1
Just gain another tax residency elsewhere. Easily done.
1
@VoiceOfThe My tax residency is Portugal and have left HMRC. I have no ties to the UK.
1
You consider the UK to be safe? Maybe twenty years ago.
1
@larsw.larsen4173 I guess it depends if the locals think it’s ‘healthy’ - many have left Italy, Spain and Greece.
1
@basicfilmblog Portugal had a special tax regime for up to 10 years - we arrived 2 years ago
1
@basicfilmblog Classic Boomer leaving the UK because of Brexit, the Tories and the corruption around covid? - guilty of that. Otherwise, living in Portugal living in the sun with trips to Malaysia. Enjoying life after 60 plus years living in the wet and grey weather.

@lray7000 Us too!
1
@silversurfer6758 No.
1
@lray7000 good fortune with your move!
1
@lray7000 just received our S-MM2H

@stevo728822 Fear of criticism for leaving a failed state? Portugal and Malaysia are our homes.
1
@stevo728822 I have no issues with Malaysia or Portugal. We are treated with respect and kindness from everyone. Incredibly safe, excellent healthcare, amazing infrastructure, we live in an elevated position, by the sea - little use for A/C and the mosquitoes are well controlled. We are much happier in both places compared to the UK.
1
@stevo728822 Thank you for your concern. Malaria is not endemic where we are and local areas are sprayed every few days. We take precautions, obviously - but with 30 million people here and all the millions of tourists who visit every year, we are happy and content living in the sun by the sea on a tropical island.

No one with a family ever emigrated to a new country - to find a better life.

@phosoa8965 KL is a great city - English widely spoken, the legal system based on the British system, health care amazing and it's safe to walk around in the evening. Just look at the KL skyline... Petronas Towers (tallest twin towers in the world), Merdeka 118 - (second tallest building in the world), KL tower, many world class 5 star hotels there. Excellent transport infrastructure, centre for healthcare tourism, travel hub for south east Asia. Plus the locals are friendly too.

Ok - well done
