You do have examples of monopolized industry today. Corn, oil, meat, nuts, cable, water/sewage, baby formula, shipping, paper towels, cheese, eggs, bananas, concert tickets, airlines (nearly).

Even the CIA, who was staunchly anti communist, had data that showed the caloric intake, literacy and healthcare outcomes of Soviet citizens. So it's untrue that there isn't evidence to suggest their successes.
The market only pays those who follow along with it. Skills and innovations that aren't profitable don't get through. Which often time what is best for society is not best for private capital.
This is the problem with capitalists, they narrow everything down to people. "so you're saying there are bad capitalists". No. Its not about the people themselves. It's about the structural imperatives of the capitalist mode of production itself. For example, a liberal will say we regulations to curtail the negative externalities of capitalism and we need more diverse landlords. The socialist says no, we don't need to continue prescribing pain killers if we know what is causing the pain and repair it outright. We also don't want a more diverse array of landlords, we don't want landlords period. Workers have to put up with bad bosses and polices all the time or else lose their healthcare, income and whatever else to subsist. That's the difference. Workers have only their labor to use to live by. Socialists believe that should be enough. Capitalists want to instead profit off others labor productivity and reap the rewards made by others hands.
Governments do not create monopolies. Quite the opposite. It's deregulation that incurs monopolies and the second the government steps back on its enforcement the creation of monopolized capital skyrockets faster than ever. We see this time and time again. What government does do, is benefit already existing monopolies via lobbying that ensures centralization of wealth happens even more for the capitalist. Whatever criticism you have of government corruption, always ask the question, who is funding the corruption. You will always follow the money trail back to an oligarchical capitalist.
Edit: I don't want John or Jose to become the next Bezos and create the next Amazon. That's the point. You cannot do that without the exploitation of millions. What is the number of Amazon workers on food stamps? I don't recall the exact number but it's over 60%. By definition, that is a starvation wage since their wage must be subsidized by government welfare. That's not a good thing. Now is Stalin any better? That is where I disagree with the Prof.
"At the cost of millions of people" he says over and over and over again. I wanted him to become one of those millions lost after awhile. We get it. But what about everything we have today? Coffee, chocolate, cars, batteries, refrigerants, oil, aluminum, steel, our plastics, clothes, component parts etc. At what cost globally do we as Americans benefit from the cheap labor of those people around the world? What about transporting dangerous chemicals on trains that derail and explode? What about the cost of the people from east Palestine? Do they not matter?
And then he tells the Prof to move to a country that no longer exists... He's not defending Russia you bafoon. He's making the case for why the Soviet Union wasn't as bad as American propaganda claims.
Wait wait wait... Now he's blaming socialism for the backwards rules of theocratic Iran???! Negative IQ points.
Plenty of refugees and migrants come to America for handouts. That's literally the problem we're having right this very minute at the border..
"How hard was it to get a PhD" who cares!? How hard is it to repair sewer lines and clean rooftops? How hard is it to climb cell towers? How hard is it to maintain a family farm? Infinitely more tasking and strenuous than it is to become a professor. You'd think these people with important labor intensive trades jobs would make hundreds of thousands. But they don't. The market instead rewards a PhD more than the gritty blue collar workers who maintain our society. How do you explain that?!
"What can I do to my employee who flips me off and quits? Nothing". Yeah sure nothing at all. Besides taking away his health insurance, income and blacklist him from other places of employment. But yeah other than literally revoking everything he had to remain healthy, sure, you could not do anything. And 40 million were killed because they quit working? Now we're just making stuff up. Btw, Right wingers approve of that. If you starve it's because you chose to be a slacker and not work for your meals. So what are you complaining about? According to your ideology, 40 million lazy bones got deleted for not being contributing members of society.
Saying that America refuses to ban Chinese Owens TikTok isn't exactly the pro market position you think it is champ. America should ban it. It's in our national interest, not the interest of global capital. We d not have freedom of speech in America btw. Talk to literally any conservative or anti anti war, pro union lefty. Censorship is the name of the game.
