The problem is not that we don't have enough housing, it's that housing which does exist isn't affordable.
Community land trusts, rental and mortgage assistance, co-housing, tenants councils, union jobs, manufacturing brought back to the US, municipal and state built) owned housing, family assistance and incentive programs, restructuring zoning laws to allow for more than single family homes, housing first laws, renovating old hotels and turning them into mixed income units, and housing cooperatives. All of these things or a handful from this list can and will benefit the economic impact of the housing market and the majority of everyday people. Oh, and institute a land value tax.
And the guy mentioned immigrants. Increased immigration both legal and illegal results in higher demand which results in higher prices. So good job advocating for more of the problem.
