I view it this way, if you can't trust being around someone platonically, if you don't feel like you can rely on this person in day to day life, why trust them with your sexuality? It is illogical and should be how someone determines when they sleep with another person. If you can't trust them to tell the truth or be reliable in basic interactions then you can't trust them to tell the truth when sleeping with you.
