  8. Socialism and communism will never have anything to do with state or national control over the economy. The whole point is to limit classes and central power, instead giving more of that power to the individuals and the people. Communism doesn't stifle innovation. People have never invented things to make money, they do it to increase standards of living and leisure. Tesla needed money to build and create his inventions , because of the society and the structure that it was built on. But he wanted it to be available to all people, equal access to it's use. Very communist if you ask me. The standard of living has raised but that doesn't mean people are keeping up with those standards. I'm a market socialist, cautiously a democratic socialist although I prefer the over arching left wing market libertarian title. I don't like being strapped down. But my point is, cooperation is key, competition is an excuse to outperform the other an focus on profit rater than productivity. The economy isnt a sport. It shouldn't be treated like one. I'm not technically an anarchist, I believe the government is a necessary evil. And some industries, ones that aren't commodities or consumer goods, should be available to all. The reason taxes exist is to redistribute wealth and provide access to certain services in a capitalist system. Capitalism gets replaced, no taxes are needed. Capitalism has always failed. Socialism failed because the system changed. People began taking power and wanted to maintain it. but some form of socialism has existed since the dawn of man. It is humans natural conclusion. But capitalism has successfully made it so that trying to imagine a world without it wouldn't be a world at all. This is of course false. As a reformist, I propose a social democracy founded on equal access to health, education, a socal dividend/Ubi and protections for the consumers, workers and the environment. This should then over time allow us to transition into a socialist economy.

  14. The main thing I've noticed, even a year after this video is all of these right wing channels showing Antifa causing fights yet their own videos show otherwise. Antifa tends to react more than instigate physically. Antifa might use direct action if necessary, but I've seen them feeding people during protests and protecting women and others from being attacked.

  23. The criticisms he gets are largely unfounded. My personal implementation of UBI would be slightly different, I would eliminate foodstamps and unemployment benefits as well as other social programs and replace it with UBI. I also go for 1200 because that is the most common number decided upon by analysts and economists who support UBI. I would keep social security disability however and that would be separate from the UBI check. I'd also fight for seniors to receive 2400 a month, not including retirement savings. But I for the most part agree with how to pay for it, though I'd support a land value tax. It's the best we can get so take it. I hear people complain because it's not exactly to their liking but that's elitism right there and we shouldn't be so picky. We are lucky to have someone bringing this to the MainStage in the first place. I and millions of other Americans would benefit immensely from UBI. He also supports Medicare for All. Bernie doesn't advocate for a universal basic income, which greatly disappoints me. I also happen to be one of the few Lefties it seems who agrees with Yangs approach to education. He still wants to forgive student loan debt and he wants college to be affordable to all but not necessarily free unless for a vocation. He supports community college and trade schools, so do I. My taxes aren't going towards free college for some dumb feminist to take a gender studies class. #SecuretheBag

  25. I have spoken to this at length with others online. Im honestly tired of this story. Its not border securities fault. Its her parents fault. There is no getting around that. Im against for profit systems and cheap immigrant labor, i think those businesses should be fined for hiring them and i don't want them here anyway. I don't understand the issue with this! The parents should be blamed, and the children are victims of it but that is not an excuse to let these illegal immigrants off the hook. "Oh your kid died, im so sorry... oh wait, this is your fault. Time to go to jail now, you piece of shit." We need to reform ice and Border control, help it work with immigrants but not without losing their toughness, we should be tough on immigration, especially now. When we fix our own shit and help the millions of people who don't have healthcare or adequate shelter who are citizens, THEN we can focus on immigration. Until then, immigration is a distraction, its hurting us more than we already are or at least not making matters better and it needs to stop being prioritized. A child died, im sorry. I realize the horrible fact that she will never be able to experience anything ever again, it bothers me. But that is not an excuse not to be tough on illegal immigrants and give them any leniency. We need to stop everyone else trying to come in. SHUT DOWN the borders for now. And lets focus on the assholes here and see if hey should be given a path to citizenship or not. Lets make the legal process quicker and easier. But after we get a handle of our own shit.

Its really the only thing I'm not in line with progressives. The asylum system is broken and too many are released into this country without being processed. Businesses should be fined and punished for hiring illegal immigrants. They should nit be able to buy property or cars because that involves legal documentation and identification. Too many people arrive here and are clogging up the system. I also am not being friendly towards wealthy immigrants coming here and opening up shop. I don't want them here. He is a person who has the right to a platform. If you choose not to buy his books and actively tell people not to buy it and/or leave nasty reviews of it like people did to Rave Dubin, then that's fine. But devoiding him of a platform is not the answer. Now how are we supposed to criticize his opinions when we aren't able to access them? How can we show others how stupid he is when his content has been removed? Deplatforming and cancel culture are the modern day equivalent of book burning. If you don't agree then you are simply wrong, that's not an opinion that's an objective fact. We are labeling things we don't like and destroying them from the public and making it harder if not impossible to access This is objectively authoritarian and regressive. If you on the Left support segregation and banning a person for saying something YOU find offensive then that is by definition regressive. Why? Because we've progressed beyond these abhorrent values; at least in theory. Social media has allowed cancel culture to thrive. It's killing creativity, debate and free thought. That's simply not something you can logically argue. Cancel culture is a plague that makes the Left appear like the bad guy and makes the Right a group of victims and we all know the right loves playing the victim. It is regressive and inherently authoritarian to ban the speech and the platform that permits said speech to be delivered.

  38. People who are in prison, especially who committed violent crimes and are going to serve long terms do NOT and SHOULD not have the right to vote. They gave up their right to vote when they took away someone else's right to life or security. There are classes of crimes that need to be addressed and certain crimes fit a certain description that should prohibit those criminals from participating in society because when they did participate they hurt people. Those people in my opinion gave up that privilege.

Stop using 20th century Soviet state capitalism as synonymous with it. 2: Socialists do not have issues with social democracy (that's if they do) because of fear the workers will become content. They are against social democracy because it does not address what is making these regulations and welfare programs necessary in thr first place. Social democracy is only a band-aid not a cure. It only mitigates the problems created by capitalism rather than eliminating the source altogether that is responsible for such inequality to exist. The only reason we need welfare state and minimum wage laws is because of capitalism. We wouldn't if we had a socialist economy. 3: democratization of the workplace is one of the key aspects of moving towards such an economic system.

The ownership of land or resources without compensation for use of it that now others cannot freely use must be paid back in some form or it's theft. you know what is also theft? Wages. A person makes a product, doesn't own or have any say over it, the product gets sold at a rate higher than it cost to produce and he receives a meager wage after the owner got his share of the profit/surplus value, after the shareholders get theirs and after the rest is used to expand and maintain the company not to mention pay for things like private health insurance. Then after all that you see compensation for your tour effort. That is theft. People used to at least own the labor their contributed. Those days of being a merchant are gone. Now we have mass manufacturing and sales where a large group of laborers perform tasks for a Capitalist who pays them a wage to make him money. That's theft. They have no control over their labor. That's exploitation.

  74. Im homeless, I live in a car, my mom's car, my mom who is homeless with me. I got in a knife fight a few months ago with another homeless man... It's dangerous for everyone. I get what this guy is saying. But we should prioritize all homeless people. Not exclude anyone. Kids definitely should be a top priority though. Ending homelessness in general needs to be a top priority. Too many people hate on homeless people. It's our fault, we deserve to be homeless... That's wat people say. And it kills me every time. I'm glad his experience was peachy, but ours has not been. It's been 3 years... Little to no help. Certainly no housing for us. I'd like to point out that the reason the majority of homeless people are men is because there is priority to prevent women from being homeless. This idea that men are strong capable individuals who don't have it as hard is exactly why we should prioritize men. Or at at least on a case by case basis. It's been shown that the stigma around homeless men is that they just be criminals and that women must have had something horrible happen. Yet isn't it obvious that is the reason the majority of homeless people regardless of gender or race are homeless to begin with? Trust me, there are many programs to help women but hardly any for men.

  82. I do not believe you can have one without the other. For what is the point to be free from imposition if you are not free to pursue or have access to whatever will allow you to reach your goal? Not only are your negative liberties being infringed by your inability to let's say, have access to healthcare but your positive liberty to life and the pursuit of happiness is being impacted. Then we reach the topic of personal autonomy, which is traditionally what freedom entails. The right to personal autonomy and choice, the freedom to make a choice (positive liberty) which is essential as part of our autonomy, will often collide (negative liberty)with another individuals right to personal autonomy. One person's positive right to choose will infringe on another's right to choose and that will infringe upon their negative rights to be free from some external force. Since autonomy is assumed to the goal when looking for freedom and since autonomy means the right to self rule aka positive liberty and exempt from external control aka negative liberty, then it means that on order to have freedom you must have both positive and negative rights. Both impede upon the other and collide in a vicious cycle. Yet they compliment each other. We must find the balance. The second amendment for instance is a positive right. The right to keep and bear arms. But limiting that freedom is infringing upon your negative rights. However, in my personal view the freedom/autonomy/right to posses a firearm should not supersede my freedom, personal autonomy and right not to be afflicted by your firearm. Both positive and negative liberties are being infringed for both me and the owner of said firearm at the same time. Ultimately this is a conundrum, one which has no definitive answer. Ultimately true freedom and absolute freedom is impossible to achieve regardless of which type of freedom you advocate for.

Stick to a hierarchy, follow in line, do what the fragile social structure says, do "this, this and this" to succeed or fail on your own and don't believe things we don't agree with or you're banned from participating in the market pretty much. It's foolish to believe free marketism is individualistic when individuals drown and suffer in a market that forces people to fall in line with propaganda and trends. Consumerism is not individualistic. Taking over smaller businesses is not a freeing or liberty inducing quality. Now to be fair, some collectivist aspects are beneficiary and breed solidarity and cooperation. Not everything needs to progress for the sake of progress just like the economy doesn't need to always grow simply for growths sake as it is unsustainable. I wouldn't call myself a populist, though I have populist leanings. I tend to be more culturally conservative but I'm vastly Left wing on economic issues. I support worker solidarity across borders but I don't want those workers here in the US, I want worker solidarity to be global...which means I want those workers to remain in their countries. I am not very liberal socially. I don't support or agree with the typical cultural values of post modernism. I despise post modernism. I support the family. I don't like drugs and don't agree with legalizing them (weed and psychedelics are ok). I don't support reparations or affirmative action. I am not an LGBT ally, though I'm not antagonistic towards them either. I just don't believe in multiple genders or the ability to identify as whatever we want, especially with children. Take Dwyane Wade's son Zion for instance who now identifies Zaya; I'm sorry but I'm very hostile to that nonsense. Another conservative aspect to me is I have a very tooth for a tooth ideology. Prison is for punishment and removing bad people from society, not rehabilitation. This is why I believe the prison population should be much smaller. But even with my conservative leanings, I'm vastly Left wing. I consider myself a market socialist/democratic socialist. I support a total overhaul of the economy into a post capitalist society where the people and the workers have power over themselves and resources.   93. I almost made it first... damnit! I have my criticisms of Yangs UBI, but i agree it should replace food stamps among a few other unnecessary programs. I wouldn't replace SSI and Disability with UBI, UBI would be on top of it. UBI should lower rent as landlords would know that potential renters would have enough to at least afford their fees. This would eliminate the new rules that people must prove they make double the amount the rent actually costs, which severely limits how many people (including myself) can afford to rent. We also need to better negotiate rent prices and try lowering them. We dont need to build new complexes for lower income people, we just need to lower many already existing apartment complexes. I am not against public housing however and we should invest in that. My persona UBI plan would give more to seniors too; 1600$ instead of 1200$ a month. And that's another thing, i saw most academics proposing 1200 a month. But yeah UBI is meant to replace the right to work red tape programs that hurt lower income people. it should not replace disability claims as i mentioned earlier. It will also incentivise legal immigration as illegal immigrants would not be able to receive it.

Some people will be, and they have their role to play in society, such as porn and prostitution but that should be a minority of people, especially women since they have far more value. Men should not be whores either. It's harmful to themselves and to women. We should respect ourselves and each other. Casual sex is an insult to that. But it does have it's role. Restraint is necessary if we want an orderly, free society where things work out to our best interest most often. Promiscuity threatens this.

The more women who campaign or sign up to run the more likely one will be voted in. Not only that but she already stated herself that representation for women at the state level. Like she also pointed out, the majority of people in higher political power are those who have elite educational backgrounds, inherited the power via their parents and their parents affiliates or that persons income status. Most working class people will not be able to have the capital to run a strong campaign. As we know, the working class is dominated by men. So this isn't a gender issue but a class issue. Americans regardless of political leaning report being curious and interested in having more women in power. So it's not gender discrimination. We do need to establish equality of opportunity, then we can see who makes it and who doesn't. Now for something's there needs to be a more equality of outcome because just because you have opportunity doesn't guarantee anything. And I don't believe in an every man for himself, social Darwinism society. So certain things will need to be accessable to all and owned publicly or collectively. And as for the cookie analogy, it's not a good one because as she mentioned you are adding something to the cookie that the manufacturers don't necessarily want to put in, but for the sake of public opinion they are put in there. Problem is, I don't want any nuts or other ingredients in my chocolate chip cookies. It's a chocolate chip cookie, the master race of cookies. So no, I don't want any added ingredients in there.
