Number 1 principle to negotiate with Putin - do not trust him.
N 2 Russian troops must go back to where they were before the War.
And then, more serious conversations can start.
Meanwhile, remember Ho Chi Min strategy lessons for fighting a powerful enemy with guerrilla and partisan tactics:
1) The enemy advances, you retrocede;
2) The enemy stops for regrouping and resupply, you torment them from all sides
3) The enemy retrocedes, you carry on tormenting them all the way until they are finished or go back from where they came
So, while negotiations are on going, do not leave a chance for the Russian troops to rest, regroup, resupply or even breath. They are convinced the talkings will led to peace agreement and they will go home. They will be even less willing to fight then they have been so far.
Putin is just buying time to bring in fresh meat to be slaughtered and replace some of the equipment they have lost.
Putin would never come to a negotiation, if was not for feeling the disaster so far and for buying time to be able to continue.
He cannot be trusted, and Russian economy needs to go further down for him to feel the rope is getting tighter and tighter around his neck.
