Alberta can only leave if they get permission from Ottawa, is my understanding. Ottawa won't let them go, because they are busy robbing Alberta daily.

@parlyramyar What I read was that the issue of the referendum, whether the majority was "satisfactory," might be up to the discretion of Ottawa. It's not explicitly defined just exactly how high the vote needs to be, and Ottawa might move the bar. But we'll have to see how it goes!

@The_Zilli People have all kinds of opinions on this. IMO, secession would definitely run into trouble in Ottawa and probably percolate in courts for years. But I do think people should TRY, because nothing happens without that first step.
