It's Europe that has insufficient oil that keeps seeking it from Africa and the Middle East, and Russia fights Europe, because Russia wants to control Europe by controlling Europe's oil sources. This is why Russia is in the Middle East fomenting revolution, why Wagner was waging war in Africa, why Russia invaded Ukraine. So yes, the US is acting on behalf of Europe, not its own interest.
