I'm an older person who has never had the finances to own a house. My parents got the money for a house as the result of an inheritance. Money was tight for them until the kids were grown. So don't think you're an outlier. Not everyone gets a house, not everyone is prosperous when young. Marriage helps build wealth, as two can live as cheaply as one, but most families will struggle with wealth while the kids are young, unless an inheritance comes through.

@LegDayLas There's only so much time to have kids. The opportunity must be taken while the wife is young or it simply won't happen. Of course, having kids used to be cheap, but they have made it so expensive.
