@The_Sodbuster It's very hard to draw a line, because every generation seems to have a precedent in the previous generation. What causes you to pick Madison? Something related to the War of 1812 or Bank of the US?

@HOWBAZARY Not coincidentally the era of the Russian Revolution, with international anarcho-communism loose in the world, and the left wing on the ascent in the US, allied with the old Confederate Democrats who had turned from the plantation model to the urban organized crime model (Tammany Hall). Remember that Lincoln (R) was killed by a conspiracy that may have involved US intelligence, but subsequently Garfield (R), McKinley (R), and Teddy Roosevelt (R) were shot by "crazed lone gunmen" decades before the CIA formally developed MK-Ultra. Harding (R) died perhaps mysteriously in office, to be posthumously dragged through the mud by a deep state controlled left wing media (similar to the later treatment of Nixon).

@LonSelOFF Agreed, and indications are that the practices existed long before the CIA was created. Some tie Freud into early efforts, trying to brainwash people with a combination of drugs and psychology.

@ghoulgunner177 The fourth estate is another word for the news media. So the observation is that the news media has been controlled (never perfectly, but close) so as to control what the people of the state believe (the narrative). This seems to have clearly been put in place by the Wilson (D) admin in the US, growing stronger over time, but as you go back before that, there were always attempts to shape the story of events into something that suited powerful interests, like (D) Hearst's (successful) attempts to get the US into war in the era before Wilson. I guess I should add that Pres Carter (D) created the Dept of Education, which is currently seen as the department of federal indoctrination ... a valid observation. That's a linked principle, so since roughly then, kids learned a story of the world that supported "the narrative."

@edwardcook5282 No, that's not the case. But yes, I agree that the US weirdly took up the cause of the British Empire, leaving us to wonder who is the puppet master and who is the puppet? Europe will claim to be the victim of the US, but the US is repeatedly acting not for its purposes, but for theirs in the post WW2 world, spending considerable resources.
