  1. The US constantly sails ships through disputed waters in order to maintain freedom of transit. The US needs to travel to Taiwan to show that Taiwan isn't being GIVEN to China. As for Russia, they are an aggressive, imperialistic power. They have been since Peter the Great, and changing to communism in the early 1900s did not change their imperialistic drive. Communism is an imperialistic political ideology. China, likewise, is imperialistic, but they are currently not using their military to colonize, but are using predatory loans made to corrupt officials.
