He was writing about what he saw going on in the world around him, just as Orwell did. And the time in which they wrote was also not the first time, but a time that rhymed with an earlier time.

  6. I think this point goes underappreciated in the discussion of this subject, and that is the way moderns embrace the philosophy of hedonism. It's a core of the philosophy of the left, and it comes from Jeremy Bentham, a contemporary of the French Revolution. Bentham is one of the "four horsemen" of left wing philosophy, along with Hegel, Marx, and Malthus. What happened was that in America, black families used to be families of faith, and they had excellent social glue because of this. They'd stick together and stand up for one another. BUT ... young men migrating to the left's big cities adopted hedonism as their way of life. This is socially slippery; there's no glue. So they abandoned women and children. Feminism is the same philosophy, with hedonism this time causing women to abandon men, and seeing children as inconveniences. Hedonism sucks the morality out of human behavior and deeply divides all human interaction, so that nobody stands with or for anybody else, but alone, in self-interest.

Clarke was both a scientist and a writer, and his book "The Exploration of Space" was used to convince JFK to fund the moon mission.

In reference to the first subject, the infamous Salem witch trials were brought about because of the hysterical accusations made by a group of teenage girls. 24 men and women were killed as a result of these trials, and some of them very painfully and gruesomely. One man, for instance, was pressed to death by the weight of heavy stones.

  11.  @angelab4652  Anarcho-communism was developed in the mid-1800s, by Pyotr Kropotkin. We've been fighting it ever since. They are the useful idiots who do the bombings, riots, and street attacks, while the people in the shadows wait for their opportunity to seize power. Very much like how it played out in the French Revolution, with what was claimed to be an "American style" revolution for individual liberty, but which turned out in the end to usher in an emperor and a nation engaged in endless warfare to take over the world (just like Britain and Russia). BTW, note that Russia didn't stop functioning as an aggressive empire when the communists took over, and it continues in the same path as under the czars with Putin in charge. By which I mean, they are trying to control the world, especially taking Eurasia, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and the Arctic to the Indian Ocean. They see it as a manifest destiny, because that's how the rulership has kept power ever since Ivan the Terrible. Sorry for going off into history. Our actual global opponent right now is China, which remains communist - they never "lost" the Cold War - and they have been bribing officials throughout the west to act in favor of China since the 1980s.

  12. Yes, and people don't realize that Stalin was effectively the sponsor of Hitler early on, and of Mao as well. There would have been no warfare by Germany in WW2 had Hitler not been partnered with and supported by Stalin. Stalin help Hitler secretly re-arm and sold him the oil he needed. Truth is, Hitler's attack on Europe was Stalin's proxy war. Stalin wanted Europe for himself. Also, people refer to the West as "imperial" and "colonial," but the socialists were even worse. You wouldn't know that from the last few decades of left wing influence on Western education. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Mao, and Castro all participated in imperial / colonial actions. One of the final acts of the USSR was to invade Afghanistan, to take it over and make it part of the Soviet empire.
