  1. China is NOT ready for war. They have been killing only themselves for too long, and the generals are fat and happy ... and inexperienced. The generals are not going to want to risk losing face in a war they struggle with. So China will almost certainly begin a period of warfare with a series of battles in some very unprepared country that is not protected by the west. Myanmar is a likely choice, as the west won't defend Myanmar, and China does want the strategic ports on the Indian Ocean with rail lines headed into China. However, China has been so successful undermining countries without warfare, getting pretty much everything they want already, they may have to go to war against a client state simply to get the experience.
