I am an Australian retiree, married to my Chinese wife, and following living for some time in Longgang, we are now living in Binyang, Guangxi, which is a very rural city. I am about to apply for my next visa, which will be for two years, but am not troubled by this notion. We own our own house, and yes i did got my Chinese driver's licence, having studied the laws of chinese motoring, passing the exam with a result on my first try of well over 90%. This is a rural area, and there maybe one or two foreigners in this city, with whom i do not have any contact. My Chinese is very bad, and here is even worse, because other languages spoken here include Binyang Hua and Hakka. Living costs are very cheap, accounting for less then 50% of my pension. I have adapted to communication in other forms, mainly being sign language, with the ocassional use of chinese words, and at other times if necessary using Baidu Translate, which i find is a very useful tool. When i first met my wife, she had no knowedge of english at all, which i am constantly teaching her, and she also studies hard on line, thus our communication is very good. I have now been very well accepted into her very large family of 6 sisters and one brother, after receiving strong objections by them prior to our marriage. I am also fully accepted by her parents, who go out of their way to make me feel comfortable when we visit them, as well as ensuring the food they cook will be to my satisfaction also. I love living here in rural China. There is much more i could tell, and would be happy to advise if people would like to know.
