  1. The civil war was only minimally about slavery. Lincoln even stated that he had no intention of ending slavery in the states in which it is practiced RIGHT BEFORE war broke out. It was about state's rights and over taxation. The yanks were basically stealing money from the southern states and saw slavery as a useful tool to handicap the south.
