  1. He admitted to making a false official statement. He knowingly bought it for someone who was ineligible to own a firearm. Charging the buyer as an accessory would be fair to me. He committed multiple felonies. He was not a legitimate buyer.

  2. The actual shooter had been arrested more than six months before for carry a firearm illegally, since he was 15 at the time and previously convicted, and breaking and entry. Six months before the. Shoot; it was plea bargained down to trespass and the firearms charge dismissed despite previous arrests and convicts for gang related crimes, and given probation.. During the time before the shooting, he violated his probation but wasn't rearrested to serve his sentence. When the shooting took place; he was 16 and again in illegal possession of a fire arm for the same reason. He and the driver were out to retaliate for another gang shooting one of theirs. The park where the shooting took place was on the "turf" of the other gang and they saw a group of people and opened fire killing the young woman. Let's see, the police did their job arresting and charging him previously; however, the prosecutor and court system failed theirs by ignoring his record and firearms possession and dropping serious charges and giving him probation. The probation officials failed to request his arrest or he police didn't rearrest him; which I don't know. So an innocent young woman died not because of gun violence; but rather gang violence that to me was abetted by prosecutor and the courts. Violence in Chicago won't be eliminated by chasing guns and gun dealers alone; well intentioned but flawed beliefs allow people who despite their age are repeat offenders back on the streets without punishment. It will not be solved by politicians and elected officials who fail to crack down on gangs. A new night basketball program or some other boondoggle won't stop gangs, it will just provide a different location to hang out in and a new recruitment center.

  3. A FOID Card is not a Conealed Carry Card. So, it doesn't matter if he had a FOID Card, being outside with the firearm is a violation of law. He ran, so he knew that he had committed a crime. As to the funeral, was it a gang related funeral?😊

  13.  @noneshere  Wrong under Fedderal law when you purchase a firearm the form has c you certify that you are the intended purchaser. This man had been asked to purchase the weapon by an underage convicted felon. So, he lied on the form and what is called a s trap buyer. More importantly, he then disposed of the weapon across state lines a felony in itself, an additional felony was providing it to a person that he knew was a previously convicted felon. The Feds have changed him, unfortunately, maximum sentence is only five years. The latest update is both men (brothers) in the car have been charged. The murder charge is against the older brother (21 years old)along with attempted murder charges, it sounds like he shot at another officer but missed, as well as charges relating to possessing and using the firearm by a convicted felon. The younger brother (19) was charged with firearms related charges related to his convicted felon status. He is also under 21 and his possession for that reason is also illegal, but the convicted felon aspect probably trumped that. The woman was uncharged, as no crime was attributed to her. So selling your used car analogy doesn't hold water. Nothing under existing law requires you to check anything out about the purchaser; Federal and state laws do have ru l es.

You said this guy knocked her around for years, did you see that? She was in Atlanta, are you in Chicago, it seems that way from the post? So, you from a 12 hour drive or a several hour flight have current knowledge, I rather doubt it. As too the affect of family, look at Daley the Younger son who got away with murder. Many sins get overlooked or under responded to when the connected are involved. Yes, I don't know the family, but the dynamics are all too common. Look at the event like you would at a stranger, and perhaps you might see the forest not the trees.

  18.  @lesterpettus9094  Illinois abolished the death penalty. The straw buyer is at least an accessory before the fact. So, even if there was a death penalty, he probably won't qualify; however put him in prison for a lot longer than what is authorized for a straw buyer.

A suspected murderer wouldn't be out on bail to harm again, and a convicted one couldn't do it from the grave. Punishment for theft and rape were also severe. So no need for the obvious.

  21. I need to clarify, to me acknowledge neither had new charges pending, only convictions. You should be aware because of release without bond, they are running out of ankle tracking bracelets in Chicago, per the Police Chief. They currently have hundreds of violent felons on the street w I th these bracelets, and others without them. I gather from the ch ef's comments this includes more than 100 charged with murder. So, the situation is very concerning.

  22. A FOID Card doesn't give you the right to conceal carry. To do that, you need an additional endorsement on you FOID. To get that, 16 hours of training (Honorable DD214 cuts 4 hours off that, and a concealed carry card from another state may cut more); your figure prints are submitted for a National Background Check; approval from the local police department (can be denied if there are concerned over alcohol related issues or gang ties). Oh, I forgot you have to pay for the application and all the other required items. If it is denied you lose the money. This man knew that he violated the law by carrying, that is why he ran. He probably would have had the FOID revoked if he was caught carrying.

Elements include increasing self-centeredness and feelings of entitlement, this can result in frustration when events are adverse. The increasing number of people existing without a moral compass, on the positive side the forms of Christianity prevalent in the US traditionally were guilt based and worked against murderous behavior; however some forms allow confession to clear the person of guilt, and this is found in some areas (not just Catholic). Feelings of governmental unfairness or racial hatred play a part in some cases. Other cultural values or lack of them, some religions are shame based, meaning do what you want if not caught. Encouragement from leaders either overtly or unintentionally. This along with uneven law enforcement, an example that is real is theman who recently beheaded a woman in Minnesota; multiple convictions, illegally here and left on the street (a receipe for disaster). So pick and chose. Pieces of all are involved. No one alone can explain everything, but there is no unified field theory that works here better than physics.

Prosecutors who refuse to take action until something too bad to ignore occurs are Dems, whether in Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco, etc. are all Dems. Mayors and city council people yelling defund or reimagine policing were almost entirely Dems. Stste govrrnments that have abolished bonds and permitted even murderers to be released immediately pending trial with depressing number reoffending before they are tried for the first offense are again.almost all controlled by Dems. I will agree Repubs are as guilty as Dems at not rearresting and placing people in jail for vio.ating probations and paroles. All of these things have led to where we are today; but as I said why haven't they been stopped in locations where Repubs have no chance of winning?

  29. He was in violation of Illinois law. A FOID Cardc does not give you the right to conceal carry. His acation shows awareness of the fact and gives the officers reasonable suspicion concerning his actions. The on.y remaining question is did he point the weapon towards the officers. The body cam footage should resolve that. The point is that he knew that he had committed a crime and his actions provided the officers the reason to pursue him. By the way, no matter how you call it; the officers were there to prevent a revenge killing because of the earlier gang murder.

Check out how many millions Chicago alone has paid out to people who were injured or killed while resisting arrest. More concern by a non-governmental entity for the officer and family.   31. Something to think about, the location was less than 5 minutes from I-80 and no more than 10 to 15 minutes to I-57. How manycrimes over the years have hit locations like this, where by the police who get there 10 to 15 minutes after the report comes in to them; are faced with a criminal more than 10 miles away going in one of four directions at legal speeds of at least 55 mph now and higher (70 mph) then? This was a particularly tragic example of a problem.

  33. Ignore the FOID Card, it doesn't make carrying a concealed firearm legal. You need a aconcealed carry card (now an endorsement on the FOID Card) to carry concealed, so by carrying a firearm he was violating state law. The paperwork makes it clear that a FOID alone is not a permit to carry. Trying to escape makes it clear that he knew that. Question that I have is was he affiliated with one of the gangs involved in the earlier death and was he standing with and interacting with gang members?

  37. These people are nuts. First, the comment AR15s are associated with mass shootings, the truth is handguns are the most used. As usual, "feel good" trumps logic and facts. I suggest two things, 1. Go after prosecutors who don't enforce existing laws, especially against juvenile gang members responsible for the greatest number of shooting deaths and injuries. 2. Make the penalties for gang activities higher, thereby making the crime more costly than the commission. Remember last year when Kim Foxx in Chicago declined to prosecute any one in two gangs who conducted a shootout in a public area in broad daylight. None of these people were old enough to legally own a pistol (one crime), attempted murder (a second crime), endangering bystanders, committing assault with a deadly weapon, and we could probably find more charges. Her reason was this was mutual agreed on combat. Where in the law is such a concept? Do you expect less crime or violence when you fail to follow the laws against it? Stop trying to feel good, do something real; guns aren't the problem as much as contempt for laws and society. It wasn't guns that made the wild west, it was the lack of effective law enforcement.

  38.  @davekoenig9935  The buyer is charged with Federal, not state charges, so five years in a Federal facility and a Federal criminal conviction. As to filing off seril numbers, they can be brought back if you work at it. They are stamped and affect more than just the surface. As to your disposal scheme, it is possible, but unlike you I am glad most of these fools don't do it.

  42.  @NikoBellaKhouf2  We live in today's world. On the frontiers, lynching wasn't just for minorities, it was the law in effect. Rustling, rape and murder also existed and were just as likely to meet the same fate. Check out what happened to the James and Youngers on their last raid, many towns people were Civil War vets and were more than willing to deal permanently with such. In other words, not everyone followed rules or respected each other. People who stepped out of line were dealt with permanently where certain offenses occurred. Once regular law was established the ad hoc enforcement ceased because people trusted the law. Prohibition began to end that. Consensus about that wasn't there, so wink and nod became a rule. As I said in another post, where we are today was a slow slide.

  45. The issues affecting buildings in Chicago, are different. Salt water is worse than just water. The strength of storm surges and the loss of ground water all are different. Does that mean you should ignore it, NO! It does mean unnecessary fear mongering isn't needed either. By the way, the Florida efforts have been search and recovery far longer than they will admit. It definitely was that when they decided to bring the rest down. If they had thought anyone was alive, that wouldn't been done since it would have killed survivors. Another earlier sign of what they won't say was the use of heavy equipment. All in all, nothing new; public officials not wanting to mention unpleasant truths.

  46. You have just assumed facts not 8n evidence. You can get a FOID Card with a limited juvi record, but gang affiliation or involvement prevents you from getting Concealed Carry. We don't know if he had a juvi record or gang affiliation. I asked elsewhere if this was a gang funeral that he was out to see.

  47.  @bigredd690  I do live in Illinois, and I have both FOID and concealed carry. You miss my point, we don't know his record and we don't know if he had gang affiliation. When you say that he had a clean record, you make an assumption. By the way a juvi record may be expunged, and while law enforcement can use that to deny concealed carry; it isn't an absolute bar. I would agree in Chicage and C(r)ook County, at least, no concealed carry would be approved. You can't make an absolute statement that charges would be reduced. Again, in Chicago with Kim Foxx anything is possible, so you could be right but the Illinois government might have something to say about the card.

  48. By the way, for Concealed Carry it is a National Background Check including fingerprints. Fingerprints are not require (encouraged though). There could have been a change since one work place shooting a couple of years ago involved a man whose Illinois records were clear, but had a criminal record in another state which would have prevented him from 9btaining a FOID Card. He also lied on the Federal Form when he bought the weapon, thereby actually making the purchase illegal and possible charges for a false official document (possible doesn't mean he would be charged).

No, she should not have been there with a gun; however she should not over the last two years constantly denigrated the police and defended criminals who brought things upon themselves. Her comments and support, too often before facts came out, have created a condition where attacking the police is too often excused. The other point, I don't think you will find the concept of sacrificing your life in an oath that the police take. The police have been accused of being too aggressive and now many leave their guard down. This young officer was policing as the liberals/left want, friendly no firearm drawn. She had no reason to suspect that felons in possession of a firearm illegally, one of whom was violating parole for the second time, pending charges of hit and run were in the vehicle. Suicide isn't in their oath perhaps you think it should be; but it isn't.
