Where did you hear that? It would be nice if true. A quick flash to the past the Ukraine was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth before it broke up in the 1600s with Imperial Russia ending up taking it. During the Tsarist period the peasants there owned their own land. They initially tried to be independent following the star's fall; however the communists (internal and external) ended that. The Soviets collectivised the land, which led up a great famine further destroying those who objected. During the German invasion, they had many who aided the Grrmans with the promise of independence after victory, and also many who fought the Germans because of their behavior. The Ukrainians waged a guerilla war against the Soviet government following WW 2 until 1955. Why Russians in the Ukraine, a Stalinist policy of at least partially replacing hostile populations with reliable ones. A little more complex history than most are talking about.
