The Irgun and Stern Gang did not follow that code of not harming civilians. Irgun was the one who bombed the King David Hotel, and the Stern Gang assassinated a UN peace envoy. As I say, it isn't just a good guy bad guy story.

@rachelsamuel3328 Have you read the book? Your comment makes me doubt it. I was able to find and buy a copy, since most libraries seem not to have a copy. This agreement was created years before the Final Solution.

Actually, the story is far more complex and ignores the terrorist war waged by the Irgun and Stern Gang. I am not taking sides about this period, only saying both sides have cases to make. You should read material from both sides in the period, not material written since then because of the politicalization of the whole period.

@rachelsamuel3328 Lets see, among the "victories" of the Stern Gang was the assassination of the British Minister of Palestine, Count Bernadotte the UN peace negotiator for Palestine, and its participation in the Der Yassim massacre. It was formed in 1940 and often targeted the British,who they hoped to force ou. Operated with the Irgun, another terrorist group that it had split from because of disagreements on how far they should go. The Arabs had no corner on terrorism when Isreal was formed. It would probably been better if the European nations were forced to take back the Jews who survived being handed over to the Nazis and returned their property; but mosts anti-Semetic beliefs and unwillingness to disgorge what was stolen precluded that. It was much easier for France, Belgium, the Netherlands, among others to pretend that the horrors of the Holocaust was conducted without their help; and place them among another unfriendly population (who they did like either). The Holocaust was a horror, but much more involved than which is usually thought. By the way the actual death toll of Nazi murders was 10 to 12 million when you include the others that the Nazis deemed undesirable.
