One major error, the legal importation of slaves from Africa was ended in 1809. This was due to a side agreement in 1789. This agreement, made in order to get the Constitution approved, was a letter stating that slave importation from Africa would be ended in 20 years. I will agree that it didn't end the illegal trade, nor did it end slaves being imported from other slave owning colonies and states in the Americas. It led to some strange events. Look into the actual matter of the Amistad. That case hinged on whether the slaves on board were born in Cuba or were taken from Africa. They were freed either to return to Africa or stay in the US as they desired. As I said, the law resulted in strange events.

@scottdoesntmatter4409 Open slavery ended in the US more than a century and a half ago. Is there still illegal slavery or what amounts to slavery, but it is punished when caught.
