Lincoln's VP Johnson, who had become President upon his death, was c almost impeached for following Lincoln's policies; while the last Federal occupation troops didn't leav e the South until the mid-1870s. Former Confederate officers were barred from commissioning in the US Army. Officers and ofvficials of the Confederacy were barred from officezt least for a time, people who didn't s8gn the loualty pledge could not vote. Leaving out the actual dates things occurred gives a very false impression of how painful the Reconstructi9n Period was. Tallking about the KKK, omitx ghe fzct that Forrest later opposed it. Poor and simplified history doesn't do justice to a complex and unhappy period in US history.
