Whether these people realize this or not, standard times provides a way to relate times to a standard. There were 24 time zones world wide and you could relate timed events or work hours. Making daylight saving times year round means that people dealing with US companies or markets will have an issue on this point.

Wrong, it was established during wartime to lengthen the working day without having to use electricity. Check it out.

nigel thornberry Making Standard Time mandatory does the same thing, and continues to allow people and businesses to use a standard. This was established to provide a uniform means of operating internationally. On a personal level, you want to call a family member in another country, the 24 standard time zones allow you to determine when to call for the least issue of the day and night cycle. The US using a different time schedule than the one in 23 other time zones makes that harder. All forms of business have one more factor. If you don't want the nonsense of changing the clocks, make the existing Stzndard Time the year around norm.

@JackHartigan Not really, or you won't have so many wanting thd change over to stop. The only question is do we want evrry country eventually using their own system or return to the Standard System. Business was a winner with the semiannual change since it did reduce requirements for energy use. It has been going on so long that unless you study history; you don't know why this particular dance was started. Too many Government behaviors started for good reason, but have continued because bureaucracies don't like abolishing things. Not related but pertinent, remember the military's super expensive hammers and toilet seats? Well procurement officials were using the same standard contract for them as nuclear weapons components which required large amounts of paperwork and compliance documentation, most of the cost actually was the administrative expense of documentation and the personal running the system. Bureaucracies are like that, tell them you need a tack and you get a gold plated one because it is easier to duplicate the requisition than right a specific one. Similarly, look at the end of year spending sprees. You have to spend what you requested for the year or next year the budget. I was overseas, and needed an item, the contract was outsourced to a special purchasing program rather than either a company normally in the business or allowing me to get a host country contractor. Two years in a row contractors under that program failed to deliver; and since I was prohibited from filling the funds over, I had to spend them and place the new request in the following years budget. The special procurement policy involved was a failure; but politics and social concerns made sure that we were stuck with it. So not all dumb things are done for power and control, but rather ideology and/or laziness.

@LeadStarDude That it gets dark too early on Standard Time is an opinion, not a fact. You are entitled to your own opinion. I can say one thing the vast majority of the population hate the time changes. I would, personally, prefer standard time, my wife's family lives on the 9ther side of the world. I do research and contact people in other countries, so my preference is the Standard Time.

@swankyangelo What planet are you from? There are 12 months in an Earth year; while your 10 months of daylight savings time and 4 months of standard equals 14 months. As to being a contrarian, one constant time year around would save a lot. We would agree that changing times is bad. Screws up a person's biological clock leading to possible increases in accidents until the sleep cycle is renewed. It does cause business and personal time issues. Why Standard Time, because it is a standard. The lack of a standard here is only one place, if every country decided to set their own standard, it would be chaotic.

This is not meant as an insult, but I suspect that you are much younger than me and have not traveled or dealt with people or places outside the USA.
