  1. The map shown in the background is so erroneous to be sad. The problem in the simplest form was religious extremism, mixed involvement in other European conflicts. The constant wars, the slowing of income from its colonies, and the costs of its wars. It failed to develop industry and had to buy military supplies elsewhere. Extended supply lines and things like the 80 Years War in what today is the Netherlands and Belgium, and the 30 Years War.
