  1. Joining the military doesn't grant them immediate citizenship. It does get them a green card, unless they can be security cleared they are not allowed in positions requiring clearances. This at least was true when I served. I had at least one British national serving under those terms. When he completed his enlistment (honorably) , he could immediately apply for citizenship.

  2. Measles relatively minor with proper care for pubescent children normally recoverable. Pubescent youth and adults potentially devastating. Deafness, blindness, mental damage, sterility, and death are all likely. Some sources believe measles rather than smallpox was responsible for the deaths among Native Americans during the initial European contacts. US children are routinely immunized against measles, this is not true in many other nations. After high school, measles vaccinations aren't required, leaving a large segment of the US population exposed when the disease would potentially be more destructive. Why is this, immunization shots don't provide permanent immunity; those of the population that caught the disease normally have a permanent immunity; however that is an increasingly small portion of the population who caught the disease before mandatory vaccination started.. I hope that any outbreaks can be controlled.
