Good Lord! As an economist, I have studied the problems with worker discipline and labor productivity, both in capitalists and communist economies, but I've never come across this story. American manufacturing died after Europe rebuilt and Asia industrialized, and I was aware of the ridiculous work rules and pay packages relative to productivity, but had never come across this level of complete worker negligence and obstinance. Americans had better really be thankful for the time the US dollar has served as Reserve currency, it's coming to an end and living standards for plummet as such, but absent they would have never been able to reach the standard of living they have enjoyed given their actual level productivity and work ethic.

@Wafflepudding I think you have comprehension issues because none of that was the case. The workers had absolute control over the plant when it was managed by GM according to the union contract.

@blaiseutube It's not an accounting issues and even so, increase productivity would decrease unit cost of production leading to greater productivity. That is all accounted for in GAAP; as well as ISFA.

@FS-qk5uq when an economist does not align with your political ideology or prejudice, it doesn't mean that they are poor economist, usually you just don't have the intellectual ability to grasp what they are saying.
