  1. The first proper "heavy" novel I have read from Dostojevski is "Brothers of Karamazov". In that book Dostojevski seems to give his somewhat general view upon Russian spirit. In one hand there is piety, bright and utterly optimistic and idealistic Aljuska, in middle nihilistic, snarky but civilized intellectual Ivan and last the brash, strong, drunkard, womanizing and still with strange honor code having Mitenka. That might be just cause im Finn, but there is something more sympathetic in slavic gusto than in American brightness, not that I much approve their military tactics but the mentality of the common folk is something fascinating. The aspects of their mentality might likely be seen in their orthodox theology.
