In sense procrastination is a way to shift out the fear of missing out. Most likely the thing one fears to miss out are mostly things other people consider worth but don't really click to you. However, if someone gets rid of the fear of missing out, it is kinda like finally getting that sting off one's back. As that sting no longer causes constant stress, it lowers the will to waste time to just shift out from fear and just gradually give more energy to just start to do things which seem to be worth of doing in sake of itself.

Lowering expectations is kinda the stepping stone in the goal of stoicism, in original sense it seemed to promote some disconnect from emotions making one totally immune to distress... At least in physical sense. Originally stoicism, epicureanism and hedonism (there was a fourth one if my memory serves me right) were philosophies of happiness. However, ancient people didnt necessarily consider things like happiness or love in emotional way. The way of happiness might have still been filled with emotional turmoil and love with emotional hatred. It was the action which amounted, not what the feelings in situation were.

In my case it was DOTA 2, well, it is even now, but not in as big excess as before. Getting out of that fear sure helps to improve focus and make more productive decisions.

To be honest that might be the emotional cause for procrastination in some people. For one action one does, there are dozens of other actions they are not doing and in one or other standard that seems more important. I don't remember name for that paradox but there is that paradox that the more options one have the more likely they are not gonna choose anything. Consider some old videogame where one had limited options but every path had some nice stuff to give, compared to open ended modern game which has countless options but likely none of them is that interesting. For good reason "focus" is considered one hella good skill to have.
