Shenmue seems to be that kind of game one likes to read from those old-school gaming magazines and imagine what happens inside, while playing it itself does not necessarily bring such big impressions. I had same feelings while reading Silent Hill 1 or fear effect playthroughs even without playing em. The adventure still felt interesting. Though if I had been Dreamcast kid it might have been interesting journey back then. It is a bit shame that one cannot really partially erase the memory oneself to enjoy these features like they were fresh thing before they became commonplace.
