The time where Marx wrote his writings kids were used in mines, likely dying in process or young age, mistreatment of certain classes of people were justified by pretty strange reasons for modern ear. Marx's thought might resonate bad to some modern religious conservative's ears, but his visions were likely justified by standards he saw back then. If church was (though it had its proponents to talk against issues like slavery) toothless or even somewhat justifying the matter, it is no wonder Marx kinda became dissillusioned. Persoanlly I'd put communism to history like many other movements but it was walking against proper things as it started.
