I love your loads.

Appalling engineering.

@defaultname531 My Tiida/Versa, and my mate's Wingroad have dipsticks on the CVT. They are a bitch to remove, as the hay an evil retention clip on them, so I just put them in with the clip on the opposite side. Servicing them is a breeze - just lots of bolts, and expensive fluid. I love them. SO good on fuel.

A decent carb makes such a difference. They get past the point of economic repair, and give symptoms of a very stuffed engine, in my experience. I swapped engines in a Mazda and used the original carb. Seriously, it ran like dirt. Replacement carb, sweet. And NO: the original engine would not have been fixed by the carb. It was knocking and burning oil to the point where it was illegal to operate on a public road, due to the excessive smoke.

Far out - that engine IS clean inside, especially for an Escape 4-cylinder. I'm envious - even with regular oil changes, my engine still looks like the Athabasca Tar Pits inside.

It never ceases to amaze me that transmission pans are almost invariably NOT fitted with drain plugs.

Nothing like a good dump.

Half a bottle of methylated spirits in the tank will solve any water/fuel issues.

Very good,sir.

Go Pros are bloody evil, time-wasting devices. Hate, hate, hate.
1
Man, I was cringing at your proximity to that insubstantial-looking cable. I've seen that shit snap, and it's not nice for anyone in the vicinity. Eeeek!
1
Re the condos - ain't progress just the BEST?
1
Yep, pretty grubby.
1
@tmurph247 Sez you...
1
@lukek3148 What????
1
Effing Chrysler and their ground straps - how many of their products ended up in the great carpark in the sky simply because the accountants at Chrysler specified shit wiring, to save 2c per unit????
1
Those connectors are cunning little beasts - if they work, then they are a major time-saver.
1
Designed by truly evil people.
1
"Plethora" is such a good word. Hard to say after 6 beers...
1
Oops, spoke to soon. Good one with the replacing of the pickup oil o-ring.
1
Ok, you just preempted my earlier comment. Grrr!
1
The pointed punch. We call it "The Spike". One of the most useful and versatile tools in the world. When it gets lost, things stop happening, and if you don't find it, you have to make a new one. But I LIKED the OLD one... I wonder where it is today? Come back, you are missed.

Insectophobia - I found a huge bug in my kitchen when I got home following a 3 month absenvce, but had no spray. Big glass over the top of it, and in the morning, slid a bit of cardboard under the glass, and flipped it over to my annoying neighbor's property. Bug, what bug?

I dunno why, but the 4 liters seem to die, sometimes terminally, for no apparent reason, and the ones I had were terminal. All serviced, not thrashed. I avoid them now. Last one died at 12300km, which is 75-76K miles. It was fucked. Massive internal damage. That was the third one. Bloody things.
1
FALCONS, sorry.
1
Zip-tie the buggers on, because they're bloody hard to find if they fall off, or get stolen. Nissan Versa covers are like $250 each new, and cannot be found secondhand, unless you want to buy4, or use ugly aftermarket shit ones. Those MUST be zip-tied on, or they'll fall off while parked...
1
Agree with you, Ray. Just checked, and I'm still subscribed, but I note that my comments are no longer responded to. Maybe my comments are shit, but still...
1
L/H threads used to have a notch, or notches, in the fastener to indicate that it was, in fact, meant to turn the other way. At least that's been my experience. Lookes like the bean counters rode again and saved 0.0000002 cents per vehicle by no longer doing that. Lucky old shareholders. Another massive dividend, or not...
1
What a hideous engine design.
1
Oh, how we all laughed. Falling about the place, we were. Tee hee.
1
Absolutely the same symptoms on PT cruiser, Cam angle sensor fixed it. Ruined the engine mounts because the violence flogged the engine back and forth. GRRRRR!
1
It's not just a You phenomenon, and it happens in almost all industries.
1
I've been told that hanging onto the brakes at the lights, etc., causes uneven cooling of the disks, as the pads against the disk cause a heat dissipation differential, thus warping the disks just a smidgen. What's the general opinion on that out there? What's your opinion, Ray?
1
Working on the dirt like that sucks. Get a sheet of plywood - makes life a bit less uncomfortable! Mood improves, and job generally goes better...
1
Automatic liftgate? What's the point - just more to go wrong. Obviously.
