  2. A decent carb makes such a difference. They get past the point of economic repair, and give symptoms of a very stuffed engine, in my experience. I swapped engines in a Mazda and used the original carb. Seriously, it ran like dirt. Replacement carb, sweet. And NO: the original engine would not have been fixed by the carb. It was knocking and burning oil to the point where it was illegal to operate on a public road, due to the excessive smoke.
