That exhaust note. SO good. I had a 125 1600 DOHC, and it was a bloody rocket. I also had a Lada 1500, with a Weber carb conversion, and extractors. It was fucking cool. Pity I loaned it to a friend, long-term, and he never checked the oil. Ever. It still went when I got it back, but the engine was history. Thanks, Bill.

They are very lovely looking cars. I've never driven one, and have heard that they weren't super good. Bummer. Cheers for the clip.

Those bloody awful crankshaft thrust washers...

They DID make a Mk II 2500 PI - I know, as I drove a dark red one in Palmerston North. I also saw others around. The one I drove was fast for it's time, but apparently, according to the owner, it was still very unreliable, requiring constant attention to the injection system. Ancient history, I guess, and I always prefered the look of the Mk II.

I've had 2 BMWs. They belonged in the toilet, and I'd never buy another one. Had the use of a couple of Mercedes, and felt blahhh. Haven't driven that model Fiat, but had a 125, a 125T and used a 124 Sport for some time. Fun. No experience with Alfas, but I'd personally give the German cars a big fat miss.

It didn't help that many of the cars were unattractive parts-bin specials, with questionable build quality, and few not-so-great engine designs. However, I still miss the pre-'80s vehicles, for the most part. Old and generally slow, but friendly.

Rebodied AND repowered Hondas...

Mind you, I had a Lada 1500, and it was a tank. And it was rusty, but not like it was worse than anything else keeping everyone awake at night dropping scales onto the street. Seriously - I had a 2 year old Cressida, which was a "luxury" model. The l/h rear 1/4 crumbles so badly, and the demand for that panel was enormous. And try an early '80s Nissan ute!!! I think this is why MIG welders were perfected.

Personally, I prefer the look of the coupe. That's just me.

Aaah. Nothing like a bit of corruption. Lovely.

124 Sport/Coupe - can't even find a basket-case now.

It's an appliance. If it does its job, then who cares. It's a pretty little car. My take is that it's an Italian Nissan Versa/Tiida. Drive it for 1000ks, and you'll get used to the steering... I'd have one.

The Chrysler 383 was the baby of the available engines, but it was very, very fast, by 1969 standards.

270 bhp with Carter 2 BBL carb. Still mental once it got moving. 80 to 100 mph in seconds. Used less fuel than my 6 cyl. Holden Torana. Go figure.

Looks like a Morris Oxford heater control...

Look at a '70s to late '80s Toyota or Subaru. Not tank-steel - high carbon steel.
