  11. I've never seen a Nissan HR engine with a full engine cover. Some weird Mercedes/Nissan/Renault engine, or some such. We have a 1.5 in our newer Tiida, and it seems to go ok. Less power than my 1.8, but very nice to drive.

  13. Can't see the point of trying to make a couple of hundred out of it. There'll be 100 in doing the wee chores. And it's a 4 x 4, so it's got to be worth a bit more than the bog-standard version.

  14. I had the Holden version. We called it the Ashtray. Was a good car, with a bit of a weird gear shift. 1.8 with a cambelt. Expensive to replace, unless you do it yourself, and then find out that the water pump fails immediately afterwards. Yes, I know why. I haven't driven the model you've got, but I've just been offered a 2.2 Vectra. Reviews are not good, so will avoid.

  15. I hate those generic replacement wheel trims. The el-cheapo ones that the auctions put on. Car then looks cheap and nasty. Refurbishing is a better bet. On a Tiida, each wheel trim is over $235 new for genuine. Sucko!

  16. They were sold new in NZ, as a v6, from memory, but were discontinued after 18 months, I like them, and still see them on the road.

  17. I wish I owned one. My sister has an Aqua and a hybrid wagon (Dunno what, but it's a Toyota), and 2 other friends have Aquas. Dirt cheap to run, and they seem peppy enough. I want one, as I do hundreds of people I know, but you just can't get 'em at a decent price in NZ. Sticking with the Nissan Tiida/Versa and the munted Mazda Demio for now. Cheap-ish to run. I do 400k per week just to work and back, and that's without overtime. PT Cruiser has stuff growing on it.Hasn't been started since last year, and seems to be uneconomical to get it back on the road, even though it's low mileage. Hungry on fuel, for a 2.4. Probably scrap, though still roadworthy. Cambelt $3500 fitted, as apparently engine-out job. Nah. Glad I sold the V8 Jeep. Fuel here is just too expensive. $2.67/litre this afternoon.

  18. Bloody good little cars. Number 1 stolen car in NZ. Mine was stolen Tuesday night. Smashed to bits and burnt, in a field 3km away by some yoofs. Sad. It was an inoffensive little thing. Course, now I can't get to work, but as long as the kiddies didn't have to walk 3 km. In the scary night. Where they're probably the scariest critters out there. Warms my heart... They are known to the rozzers, and they'll get a cultural report prior to sentencing. Course, I'll be out of a job, but HEY! Kids are our future!!!

  20. Nope. The steering wheel should be genuine Redwood. Yes, the rest of it is plastic. Try Rock Auto in Texas. Got damn near everything, and at a good price. Swirl motors, injectors, turbos, mounts and so-forth on the shitlist.

  23. That's the thing with CVTs. Service the things regularly, and they work well forever. Ours has 229000 on it, and is still sweet. Seems to work better than a Toyota CVT. Goes well - 1.8 twin-cam, and it just goes loose in Sport mode. Damn quick.

  26. Forget the diesel, sorry. Nasty, and expensive to repair - which you WILL need to do. Same engine as fitted to the 300C diesel. Horrid.

  29. Doug Demuro is a moron. I've got a 2005 2.4 PT Classic auto. I have NOT treated it well. The worst thing is the Cruise Control - it goes into PANIC mode when you hit a hill, and drops down 2 gears, and can't figure out where to go from there. Screaming revs, Fuel economy out the window. On the expressway, cheap as chips to run. It's still an ok old beast. 2.4 remodel is a brilliant engine.. I'm keeping it, but the '01 Mondeo Zetec is my daily.

  31. I've had a few WJ/WG Grand Cherokee Overlands, with the High-Output 4.7 V8. I also had a ZJ/ZG Orvis Edition with the 4.0 six. They have some problems of their own, those engines. I put 3 replacements in. Last one had done 75000 miles, with FSh. Died in 3 month. They'll just lock up solid, no matter how kind you are to them with servicing. Yes, the 4.7 V8 was a flawed engine, randomly dropping valve seats, but the 265 bhp WJ Overland had a bodyshell designed by Porsche, and was the last of the live axles. Articulate? Articulate!!!! The 4 litre used more fuel than the 4.7 V8. 4.0 is not the best. Jeep is not the best. Chrysler is not the best.

  32. Why do you do this to yourself? It was cheap for a reason. If it doesn't overheat on a 60-mile fast trip, it might be ok, cooling-system wise, but that stuff looked like glue.

  43. Quite a nice little car. Beats the shit out of the Citroen C3 I recently experienced. I can't be doing with the dog-stench. Bonnet looks like it's been replaced, going by the internal paint. No biggie. Those generic, unbranded poxy wheel trims devalue a car, IMHO. I'd have your Fiat.
