If Russia was a good neighbour, there would be no need to join Nato in order to be secured. Most of you have no clue what it is like to live next to Russia. We know Russia and we also know Russia needs excuses only, not a reason. Putin has always wanted Ukraine back. USSR is gone, Eastern Europe is not russian backyard and Russia has no red lines. Russia always wants more just because it can.

@sashap5747 If Russia does not like neighbouring countries joining Nato, maybe Russia should really try and stop giving them reasons to join Russia never stopped making mess in Ukraine and Eastern Europe so who is "pushing" here? Other country's pact choice is none of Russia's decission. We owe Russia nothing. Russia is not our master. Greetings from Poland.

He is stucked in Cold war era and he still treats Russia like Eastern Europe's master. We moved on and we owe Russia nothing. Russia has always been a terrible neighbours. Russia needs excuses, not a reason. It is not about Nato. It is about Putin's ego. He has always wanted Ukraine back. Ukraine had no chance to join Nato and had no will to join before 2014. Putin invaded Ukraine anyway. Why? Because he could and he did think it would be easy.

Putin's Munich speech explains Putin's mindset well. Ukrainians are "little Russians" for Putin. Putin loves matrix version of history and whole Tucker interview proves it. Both Germany and France did not agree for Ukraine's Nato membership. Putin had what he wanted and invaded anyway.

@stockdale829 Nato is not a reason for war in Ukraine. It is an excuse. Putin wants Ukraine and he knew he could invade non Nato Ukraine only. Ukraine had no chance to join Nato. Mearsheimer seem to forget that Cold war era is over and Eastern Europeans are free people. They owe Russia nothing. He has no clue what it was like to live under soviet boot so he is not the one to talk.

Russia always acts as if we owed Russia something. Russia needs excuses and blames others for her own failures. Russia's behaviour is the only reason why Eastern European countries want to join Nato as qucily as they can. They do it in order to be secured. For every time Russia was invaded, Russia invaded others 10 times. When was the last time Nato invaded nuclear power? Oh, wait..it never happened. When was the last time Russia made some mess in non Nato country? Oh wait...

@libertarianbydefault Ukraine's pact choice is none of Russia's decission.If Russia had not invaded non Nato country of Ukraine, Finland would have never joined Nato. Finland has the biggest land border with Russia. Why didn't Putin care? Because Nato is bs excuse. He wants Ukraine. You need to apply on your own, meet the criteria and stay in line. Nato does not let countries with unsolved border issues and war in progress to join the pact. Stop blaming Russia's victims for calling the police. Invading neighbors is wrong. Nobody invaded Russia.
