If Ukraine had been in Nato, Putin would have never invaded it. Russia is not a special need baby. Russia is a bully and blames its past and current victims for calling the police.   2. Russia broke Budapest Memorandum signed by Russia in 1994. Russia was supposed to respect Ukraine's ndependence and borders. Thee was no will of Ukraiian people to join Nato until 2014 when Russia grabbed Crimea and started making mess in Donbas. Nato never invaded or hurt Russia. Natois not a threat. Nato is bs excuse for Putin. Putin hates Nato because he can invade and annex non Nato neighbours only. Russia needs bs excuse to justify its never ending greed.   4. Blaming Nato expansion for war in Ukraine is like blaming a victim for asking for help and calling the police because she did not want to be hurt anymore. If Russia was a good neighbour, many former Warsaw pact countries would have no need to join Nato to be secured. Russia keeps invading and annexing its non Nato neighbours just because it can. Putin wants Ukraine in the name of his own ego and because of his own greed and Nato is bs excuse for Putin to justify it. Eastern Europe is not russian backyard and USSR is gone.
