Russia has always been invading and annexing its neighbours so Eastern Europeans wanted to join Nato to be secured and who the hell is Russia to tell them they could not decide about their own fate?   5. Exactly. Joining Nato was a choice while being Warsaw pact member was made by force and Eastern Europeans did not ask for it. Nato expansion is bs excuse for Putin. Putin wants to annex Ukraine. Russia has never had anything to offer exept for poverty and lack of freedom. We are not soviet backyard anymore and we decide on our own. Russia is not Eastern Europe's master. If Russia was a good neighbour, there would be no need to join Nato to be secured. It is like blaming a victim for calling the police. Russia still occupies 20% of Georgia, Russia invaded Ukraine and keeps making mess in Moldova. Russia has never been a friendly neighbour and loves annexing just because it can.
