Eastern Europe is not Russia's buffer. They applied to join both Nato and voted to be EU members. They have transparent election and free media unlike Belarus with the same dude in power for almost 30 years. Russia does not own Eastern Eure. If Russia was a good neighbour, there would be no need to join Nato to be secured. Putin knows he can not invade Nato neighbours. War in Ukraine is not about Nato. Nato is an excuse for Putin. Putin wants to annex Ukraine. We are done with Russia's demands. Russia is anything but super power. It is cheap gas station with Kalifornia's gdp so why should we care about Russia's demands?

If your country borders Russia neutrality is pure utopia. Being independent and free to choose who you want to be allied with is not the same as being neutral or being blind for russian crimes.

Eastern Europe's history proves it right. However, even if we put it aside Ukraine is an independent country as well. Russia was supposed to respect its independence and borders according to Budapest Memorandum. Ukrainians are free people. They are not soviet backyard anymore, they are not Russia's buffer and Russia itself is neither a special need baby nor a super power to demand anything from Ukraine.
