And who is Russia to tell them they could not? Their pact choice is none of Russia's decission because Putin is not their master. Eastern Europe is not soviet backyard anymore. Nato does not force any country to join unlike Warsaw pact member. Warsaw pact was the only aliance to invade its own members when they tried to leave that soviet paradise. Start respecting Eastern Europeans, their security, ther rights, ther agenda. They know Russia and that is why they joined Nato. Rusia was is and will be a terrible neighbor who uses every excuse to justify his own greed. Eastern Europe owes Russia nothing. Every bully blmaes his victims. Excuse is ot a reason. Poland joined 25 years ago. Luthuania joined 20 years ago. Ukraine had no chance to join. Putin invaded anyway. Did he wake up yesterday? No. He wants Ukraine. Ukrainians had no will to join before 2014 and had no chance to join after 2014 because Nato does not want countries with unsolved border issues to join the pact. Putin created Donbas mess and he has been paying separatists in Donbas in order to be sure to keep Ukraine out of Nato. He knew he can invade non Nato country only. Besides really why do you feel Russia's so called "security concerns" are always more important than Eastern Europe's freedom and rights? Who does Russia think it is to demand anything? USSR is gone. Russia does not own Eastern Europe. Get over it.
