I tend to have the view that people join the military for several reasons which don't necessarily include noble thoughts of 'fighting for democracy' etc. Often it's the indoctrinated thoughts of what the military will provide to you as an individual. I therefore don't generally have much sympathy when they have traumatic experiences that they find upsetting later in life. I've had traumatic experiences and seen friends die in many incidents in a long period of skydiving where I myself have only been seconds from death. So in some ways I've equated that with the experiences of combat. In reality, I know that's completely wrong and I have no idea what it's like. This interview got to me a bit.
