I've had several old Holdens (and even a Vauxhall) with vinyl bench seats. An interesting experience in the Australian summer.

@chrisweeks6973 I had the melted transistor experience too. It was a novelty one made to look like a can of Toohey's beer.

@chrisweeks6973 The memories of driving around in my HQ panel van on sweaty vinyl with the rear window up, breathing in dust and exhaust fumes the AM radio 'blaring' (us much as it could) assuming everyone was really impressed.

I worked as a parts salesman for the Rootes Group in Norwich City in 1969. I think that was about the time that Chrysler took over because we were starting to stock parts for the Australian built 'Valiant'. It may also have been because our General Manager had a Valiant. In the weeks leading up to my emigrating to Australia, my boss informed me that a Super Snipe (May have been a Hawk) had been in a major accident and gave me a huge list of parts to put in a pile for the mechanics to repair the vehicle. Two days before I left, the boss advised me that they had written off the vehicle and I could put all the parts back and adjust the stock records accordingly. I managed to find other things to do in the ensuing 16 or so working hours, collected my parting gift from co-workers and headed off to oz leaving a big pile of Humber Super Snipe in the middle of the floor.
