As I flicked through the television channels trying desperately not to get infected by the mainstream media, I was compelled to stop at one piece of news coverage in the same manner that you can't resist looking at some overweight woman with tattoos, a hair bun, pushing a pram and wearing 'active wear'. The television presenters were talking about a new virus variant in exactly the same manner as they were all talking a year or so ago, as though we were all watching with our masks at the ready, cancelling holidays and stocking up with toilet paper and food supplies ready for the next lockdown.
