Who gets the news about the world from Facebook? Apparently a lot of people. No idea why.

@zk351 So if there's the news on TV, newspapers, and news apps where's the problem? How does Facebook have any obligation to news media corporations? Facebook gets it's revenue from using it's membership as a conduit for advertisers. Why should Facebook allow news media giants to use their platform and have to pay for the privilege? The ABC's already being funded by the taxpayers anyway.

@zk351 I have to admit I wasn’t really aware that people used Facebook as their preferred news source. Personally, I use Facebook for normal Facebook stuff and don’t find so called news all that newsworthy. Putting aside it’s humble beginnings of just sharing a few photos with friends, when you look at Facebook’s business model, you may ask yourself “what is their product”. Quite simply, they produce us (the consumer), in providing a gathering platform which exposes us to businesses that want to sell us something. We don’t pay anything for using Facebook’s platform and accept the fact that we’re exposed to advertising, just like watching commercial television. These media giants not only want to have a Facebook page (like us), but want some kickback (unlike us) as well. It would be a bit like me getting approval from the Brisbane City Council to sell newspapers in Brisbane’s Queen ST. Mall (another gathering platform designed to expose consumers to the business community) and then asking BCC to give me some of the money they receive from the businesses within the precinct.
