Those 'Filler' words such as "like", "you know", or "So" at the beginning of every sentence etc. are also known as 'discourse markers'. Not to be confused with 'speech disfluency' such as "um" and "err".

@forthfarean I use to work with a guy who ended every single sentence with "Do you know what I mean?" Even when I sarcastically answered every time with "Yes I know what you mean", he still didn't catch on.

@petersmith9689 The word "Well" is also (perhaps more traditionally accepted than "So") used without any influence at the beginning of a statement.
