@bilboblaggins7659 Yes; absolutely. As far as the UK is concerned it's probably near zero. Apart from maybe a few crew members that may 'jump ship' from some despot country from which their trying to escape everyone else could find safe haven in mainland Europe.

Don't get me wrong; I think what's being allowed to happen across the channel into England is disgusting and demonstrates an absolute failure of the British government. However we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that in some circumstances people seeking asylum have just had to leave their homeland with little or no personal possessions or documentation through no fault of their own. As long as they seek out authority and ask for asylum, they shouldn't be considered "illegal" in the same sense as the 'dinghy divers' we've come to know.

@bilboblaggins7659 It doesn't; I was just pointing out that not everyone who arrives on the shores or borders of another country without documentation or conventional means is an "Illegal immigrant".

@williamtell6750 I can't say I have any specific examples.

@bilboblaggins7659 I'm desperately trying to get across the point that I'm not referring to those crossing the channel from France or other European countries. There are other circumstances for some.

@williamtell6750 No need to get bent out of shape about it. It's just commentary for you to engage with or not. There are cases where people are subject to personal or financial persecution around the world and have to flee with what they've got. It's not all about the dinghys coming across the channel.
