  1. How is using the word 'Nigger' when you're just talking about the word itself in any way offensive? When people use the expression "The 'N' word, that's just plain stupid. Why do we capitulate to such rubbish? I wouldn't dream of using the expression in reference to anyone, but when you're discussing it's past use it's perfectly legitimate to say the word. My mother was in the Royal Air Force during WW2 and was on the same base that the famous 'Dam Buster' squadron (617 Squadron) initially formed up prior to the raid over Germany. In the classic film 'The Dam Busters' which depicted the event, the leader of the squadron 'Guy Gibson' (played by Richard Todd) had a dog called 'Nigger'. I watched the film on free to air television a few months ago and his name was mentioned several times without editing.
