  1. It's a bit of a 'mix and match' sort of arrangement when we use the word 'secular'. As far as I know, the church does not have any legislative powers, yet they recite the 'Lord's Prayer' before parliament sits. I live in Australia, where, of course, Queen Elizabeth is the monarch and is also 'secular'. I've contacted our state parliamentary representative and asked the question that if we are a secular country, why are traders required to comply with restrictions based on religious (Christian) based holidays like Easter and Christmas? I was contacted by one of the minister's minions who basically accused me of suggesting that we remove public holidays.
