  1. It sounds bizarre, but using civilian aircraft to support an air force is not new. I emigrated to Australia in 1970 on board a QANTAS Boeing 707. That same aircraft was later transferred (sold or leased) to the Royal Australian Air Force up until the early 2000s when it was eventually sold to a company in the United States called Omega Air Refuellers where it served in a supporting role to the United States Air Force in civilian livery. It was still there a couple of years ago and may well still be with them. I know all this because I knew the original QANTAS registration number (VH-EAD), the subsequent RAAF number (A20-624) and the final one at Omega (N624RH).
