The film depicts actual events which occurred during the second world war. The broadcast never refrains or edits several references to the dog named 'Nigger' who in real life was a dog owned by Wing Commander Guy Gibson (portrayed by Richard Todd) who led the famous squadron on a raid on the dams in Germany.
