  1. Trade agreements, whether they be free or single market remind me of the old medieval arranged marriages between warring nations to secure allegiances. The degree of success of the marriage seemed irrelevant and secondary to the long term needs of others. These day I don't think it's too far off the old style trading where "You buy my sheep, and I'll make sure I elevate our defence budget and buy your military equipment". We're all to blame really.
